Another small and neat item that you can collect are salt and pepper shakers. There are zillions of different sets out there. Salt and pepper shakers are made in about every shape and subject that you can think of. Oh and they are small and reasonably priced. The only problem is if you don't have self control they have been known to take over complete houses. You can collect figural shakers of all types of animals, dogs, cats, birds, fish, people shaped, cars, cartoon characters, fruits and vegetables, household items like toasters, irons etc. Souvenirs of just about anywhere, you could probably make a large collection of just salt and pepper sets from Florida alone. Sets have been made in glass, china,
pottery, plastic, metals and wood. You can find them almost anywhere, flea markets, yard sales, estate
sales, auctions, thrift shops and antique shops.
This all reminds be of a town wide sale we went to many years ago. We were at a house that had some furniture inside so we went in to look and there were small 3 or 4" shelves running all around the walls about 6" apart, I mean every where down the halls and through the living room, dining room kitchen etc. pretty much floor to ceiling. So I had to ask about them, the lady said that her grandmother had passed away and collected salt and peppers. And as usual my next question was, Where are they all? She said she packed them up and were in her attic and weren't for sale at the moment. There were over 8000 sets. Wonder what ever happened to them? So collect with caution.
